Special Events and Community Activities
There will many special conference and community events happening throughout the 2024 MAPC Conference. These will be taking place throughout the campus of Kansas State University and surrounding art venues in Manhattan, KS.

Wednesday Night: Current Prints Electrolytic Research Fair and Ice Cream Social
5-6:30pm: Grand Ballroom, Student Union
Get amped up for the Current Prints Electrolytic Research Fair! This electrifying special event will showcase all aspects of a safer, innovative printmaking process - electrolytic etching! Learn everything you need to supercharge your practice, at home or in the studio. From how to build your own electro tank, to using specialty non-toxic materials, and even collaborating on large-scale copper etchings, this event will be sure to transform your perception of safer printmaking. The processes exhibited are a culmination of over a decade of study and experimentation, developed with an aim to rival the quality and feel of traditional techniques. Presented by Kansas State University graduate, undergraduate, and alumni research assistants. The research fair will open Wednesday night and be open to visit throughout the conference.
Check in Wed at the registration table, socialize, and enjoy a cup of Call Hall Ice cream made on campus at the K-State Dairy Bar!

Thursday Night: Downtown Community Block Print Party
Poyntz Avenue - The Manhattan Art Center, SNW Gallery, Downtown MHK ARTS, and more!

FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC!
In honor of the MAPC Biennial Conference coming to Manhattan, Downtown Manhattan is hosting its first ever Block Print Party. We're closing down Poyntz Avenue between 3rd and 5th streets and inviting the MAPC members and the surrounding community to come experience printmaking in a variety of forms through on-street demos, pop up print exhibitions throughout the area, and by making a print yourself! Featuring a selection of MAPC Themed Portfolios, Member Exhibitions, MAPC Travel award recipient presentations, Interactive demonstrations, and more!!!
Buses will transport Registered members between K-State Campus 5-8pm.

Friday Night: From the Ashes Campus Art Crawl

FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC!
Please join us for the From the Ashes Friday night campus art crawl, featuring a diverse array of exhibitions at the Beach Museum of Art and other on campus galleries. This event welcomes all conference attendees and members of the community to immerse themselves in the many print and print adjacent exhibitions featuring MAPC printmakers. Don't forget to look for clues from the on campus scavenger hunt as you enjoy the receptions and celebrate the art within our printmaking community.

Saturday Night: The Final Ember - MAPC 2024 Closing Bowling and Dance Party

Join us for the grand finale of the MAPC 2024 printmaking conference at the MAPC 2024 Closing Bowling and Dance Party." This celebratory event is complimentary for all registered conference attendees, offering food from Fast Track, and a night filled with Cosmic Bowling, Video Gaming, and Billiards in the newly renovated K-State bowling alley. Cap off the evening with a dance party in the Union Atrium or a drink at JP’s. Don't miss this unforgettable closeout to a fantastic conference!

The Great Room: Conference Reflection Break-out space and Silent Auction
3rd Floor, Hale Library

The sharp-eyed among you may notice that some of the works along the art crawl have the symbol below on a small card by their description. Each of these features writing from a far-off place. Gather and decipher the clues on these cards, and you will discover another work on campus not listed as part of the journey. Send a photo of yourself at this location by noon on Saturday to fromtheashes@ksu.edu and you may be surprised by the treasures at the end of this mystery.

Open Portfolio at the conference is one of the most popular and inspiring conference events! It provides an opportunity for up to 50 conference attendees per session to present their work on tables alongside one another in 1-hour "show and tell" sessions. There are a limited number of spots, so sign-up is first-come, first-served. Beginners through Professionals are all welcome and encouraged to participate! Participants must pre-register to participate in Open Portfolio, and no refunds will be offered.
